My first experience with an inner knowing happened when I was 9 years old. I spent lots of time playing in my room as a child; I loved my bedroom with its pale yellow walls and 4 windows facing onto a main street and neighborhood houses. I felt happy and safe there.
From one window, I could see out from my bed and I often gazed out onto the landscape outside. I particularly liked watching the change of seasons and the beauty of nature. I now believe it was the precursor to my present practice of meditation.
On one particular day, I was looking out and I felt a presence and happiness. The view was the same but it was wrapped as if in a warm blanket and positive feelings.
I didn’t call it a presence or a knowing then; however, as I grew, I always remembered it. As I matured and began seeking the spiritual aspect of human life, I recognized it.
It became very real as I experienced additional such events and studied more about a spiritual ways of life.
I mention the spiritual awakening because the same feelings manifested when I got the idea for my book. It was as if I was compelled to write about parents conversing with their children. My childhood had been quiet with little conversation and I wanted to suggest a different way to raise children.
